Kato Polyclay has recently been reformulated
to eliminate phthalate plasticizers. Phthalates are listed on
California's Prop 65 list of chemicals that cause reproductive
harm. Although this is a debatable issue and our toxicologist
Dr. Woodhall Stopford has certified our formula to be nontoxic,
we have decided to eliminate phthalate plasticizers from all
Kato Polyclay products as other polymer clay manufacturers already
have. We are currently in a transition period as we are running
out of our old formula inventory and replacing it with our new
formulation product. As a customer of ours, this also is a process
that you will be going through. |

Identifying old formula from new formula Kato
Polyclay is done by differentiating batch numbers. All old formula
batch numbers will start with the letters "IKPC". New
formula batch numbers start with the letter "K". The
following list contains some tips to assist you in identifying
old and new formulas: |
1. All 1 oz in 4 color sets and 2 oz. Kato
Polyclay is the new formula. |
2. Almost all 3 oz bars are the old formula. |
3. Old formula 12.5 oz. bars are being replaced
by new formula 12.5 oz. bars with a new celllophane wrapper designed
with a printed silver artist pallet on it and can also be identified
by the batch number. |
4. Kato Clear Medium was reformulated in 2007
and can be identified by the batch number. Liquid Color is a
new product and does not contain phthalate plastizers, however,
black and white may currently contain small amounts due to dispersion
inventory and VanAken will label accordingly. |
5. All 1.5 oz. Kato Concentrates are the old
formula. New Kato Concentrates will be packaged in 1 oz bars
of 4 colors. |
6. Kato Repel Gel has not been reformulated
and has never contained phathalates |

Compliance with Colifornia's Prop 65 requires
that all customers and users of products in the state of California
ONLY , be notified of the potential health hazards of materials
that they have listed to be carcinogens or cause reproductive
harm. This is a shared responsibility that must be passed down
to the consumer. Please note, the State of California has not
presently banned phthalates, Prop 65 legislation only requires
that the public be informed of the potential hazards. |
